Aligning With Your Dreams

It is six a.m. I've been lying awake since 2. Might as well make good use of my time, yes? Have been thinking about alignment.

Just after university, I worked as a posture analyst. I looked at how people's bodies were lined up in terms of muscles and bones. Over time, bodies get out of alignment. An ankle injury causes us to favour one side. Carrying a purse on a certain shoulder makes things lopsided, etc. These shifts in alignment lead to muscular imbalances. Too much strength on one side and not enough on the other. One side pulling harder can lead to further injury...and even more imbalances. It is a vicious cycle. An aligned body, however, functions well. All parts do their jobs properly and life is good. Everything is lined up.

The blockages go beyond the physical, though. A body out of alignment "feels" wrong energetically. The body's energy flow seems cramped, bunched or twisted in some areas, completely absent or nonexistent in others. In a truly healthy body the energy flows to all parts in an even, balanced way. Vibrantly.

Same goes for our nonphysical parts. The mind, spirit and intuition. If your mind is pulling too much of the load, the other parts atrophy and whither to the detriment of our own balance. Metaphysical energy, like physical energy, is overdelveoped in some areas and lacking in others.

Our culture places a primacy on the power of the mind. Logic, reason and analysis are celebrated, while emotions come in a distant second. (At least the emotions are on the radar. Thank you Self-Help Movement!) The spiritual makes it onto the list, but predominantly in the form of organized religion. And intuition usually take its place amongst the crystal rubbers and angel followers.

I do not want to discount the power of the mind. I come from a family of scientists and am in love with a computer engineer. That would be relationship suicide. However, I will say that the mind is carrying way too much of the load and we have become unbalanced.

Identifying which aspects of you are pulling too much weight is the first step to coming back into alignment. Chances are, thoughts and emotion are running your metaphysical show. Fear. Excuses. Procrastination. Poor Me-ism. Fabricated obligations (a.k.a. The Shoulds). Perfectionism. Judgment. Low self-worth. Jealousy. Self-righteousness. Logic.

You are not powerless in the face of either thoughts or emotions, no matter how overwhelming they may feel at the time. Begin to observe your thoughts and emotions. Relax and have faith that as upset as you may be right now, this emotion will gradually fade over time.

The spiritual and intuitive aspects must gain strength in order for you to be properly aligned. I've made mention of messages from your intuitive voice, the inner guidance system that begins to direct you along your path. This voice gets stronger and more robust every time you listen to it and act on its messages.

In terms of the spiritual, if organized religious works for you, fabulous. For many of us, it has been insufficient to create the feeling of connection with a higher power that we week. Many have become bitter, angry or self-righteous...becoming atheists out of spite. Some seek feelings of connection with Eastern practices. I will not profess to be an expert on this matter, except to say that I found such incredible value from exploring and expanding my spiritual life that I can only hope you give yourself the same gift.

My entree to spirituality was through Al Anon (which uses the teachings of Alcoholics Anonymous). I was not asked to believe in a white guy with a beard, but to consider (just consider) the possibility that a higher power is operating in the universe. In time, I was able to consider that possibility. Are you?

(For now, I will leave spirituality at that. But prepare yourself for some serious woo woo to come.)

When your mental/emotional/spiritual energy is properly lined up, things start to happen. Things flow. Connections are made. Opportunities begin appearing out of nowhere. You meet the right people at the right time. You see the right poster. You get that funding for your project. Synchronicity? Random chance? Or is the universe conspiring for your success? (Notice your mind's reaction to all of this...skepticism? A thrill of recognition? Hope? Relief?)
